Chinese Language Program

The Chinese Language Program (CLP) at CGU is designed to help Chinese learners improve their Chinese proficiency. It is a culture plus language program emphasizing the importance of authentic cultural and language experience.

Curriculum Goals

l          CLP aims to improve student・s oral communication ability.

l          CLP recognizes the interconnection between culture understanding and language acquisition. Its curriculum includes visits to historic and cultural sites.

Personnel

l          CLP is a branch of CGU Language Center. The program director is Dr. Lin Mei-ching.

l          CLP・s operations are fully supported by the International Cooperation Center of CGU・s Technology Cooperation Office.

l          CLP・s instructors are qualified and experienced Chinese language instructors.

l          Experienced Chinese language tutors are available to help students improve pronunciation.

Language & Phonetic System

CLP teaches traditional Chinese with the aid of Hanyu Pinyin (Hanyu Phonetic System)

Course Credits

CLP is a credit-bearing program.

Courses

Three types of Chinese courses are offered:

(A) 2-week Chinese course (total: 36 hours)

(B) 4-week Chinese course (total: 54 hours)

(C) 8-week Chinese course (total: 72 hours)

Course Level

The courses are designed for those who have little basic knowledge of Chinese language and ideograph.

Description

There will be a series of intensive oral/aural training, along with basic reading and writing practice. With an eye to enhancing students・ understanding of Chinese history, festivals, traditional medicine, martial arts, and cultural heritage, we will arrange one or two field trips every week.

Two of the following itineraries will be adopted for the trips:
