Medical
Insurance Program for International Students
(1) Applicable
to:
The international
students in their first time to reside in Taiwan for
less than four months: they shall apply for the four-month
¡§injury and disease medical insurance¡¨ as from their
school registration date.
(2) Premium:
Foreign
student¡¦s premium: NT$2,000 per person. Please go
to the Overseas Students Section within one week after
school starting date to proceed with the insurance
subscription.
(3) Insurance
duration:
The insurance
comes into effect upon the payment of the premium
and is valid for four months. The insured are entitled
to have the insurance rights during the insurance
effective period even if they suspend their studies
at the school during the insurance period.
(4) Medical
care:
With the
insurance certificate, medical care note issued by
the school and student ID card, the insured may go
to a contracted hospital to register and receive medical
treatment in which, except for medical treatment costs,
the outpatient registration fee shall be paid by the
insured. If hospitalization is required, the insured
are limited to stay in third-grade hospital beds.
In case of the deficiency in third-grade hospital
beds, as agreed by the insurance company, the insured
may stay in second-grade hospital beds. However, they
shall move to third-grade hospital beds when third-grade
hospital beds are available. The insured shall be
liable for the extra cost incurred from their own
upgrading of hospital beds without approval of the
insurance company.
National
Health Insurance
(1) Eligibility:
International
students studying in Taiwan with the residence permit:
they shall compulsorily participate in the national
health insurance in compliance with the national health
insurance law as from the fourth month after their
residence in Taiwan.
International
students studying in Taiwan with ROC¡¦s ID card, Taiwan¡¦s
residence permit and alien resident certificate: they
shall proceed with insurance subscription at the foreign
student section on school starting date.
(2) Health
insurance premium:
The premium
per person is NT$659 per month
(the health insurance premium is included in the items
of the registration note).
(3) Insurance
duration:
The first
semester starts from September until February of next
year and the second semester begins from March until
August of the same year. The students suspending or
dropping out of studies shall go to the Overseas Students
Section to proceed with the termination procedure.
Notices
(1) The
students in their first time to process health insurance
subscription shall go to the Overseas Students Section
and submit the original and a copy of their residence
permit to proceed with the procedure.
(2) The
students who still stay in Taiwan after suspending
or dropping out of studies or graduation within the
validity period of their residence permit may continue
their insurance at the township (county, city, district)
office they reside by presenting the health insurance
transfer note issued by school and the copy of their
national health insurance termination (transfer-out)
declaration.
(3) In
case of any accidental injury or disease occurring
to the insured during the winter or summer vacation
when they go back to their foreign resident homes,
they may present the diagnosis certificate and detailed
receipts to the Bureau of National Health Insurance
and request for the refund of their prepaid medical
costs within six month.
(4) For
the application for a new card due to mistake or change
in student¡¦s name, residence permit number, birth
date or photo or loss of the old card, the student
shall file the application at the Overseas Students
Section by presenting the original and a copy of his
or her residence permit together with NT$200 fee.
(5) The
international students who schedule to leave Taiwan
for more than six months during the study period may
apply to the school for insurance suspension prior
to their departure. In this case, their health insurance
premium can be exempted during the insurance suspension
period. However, the students shall apply to their
school for resuming the insurance in their entry into
Taiwan.
