1.Pathways to amino acid biosynthesis and their links to central metabolic pathways.

All 20 common amino acids arise from a few intermediates in the central metabolic pathways.
These common intermediates include oxaloacetate, pyruvate, a-ketoglutarate, glycerate-3-P, erythrose-4-P and PRPP.
The rates of synthesis for all amino acids are regulated according to the amount needed. (NOT by the amount of substrate or precursors)
The flow is regulated mostly by end-product inhibition. Amino acid (end product) inhibits the first enzyme in the pathway for its synthesis.
